NOX’S FAMOUS TRAIL MIX

Leaning into the characteristic dried fruit, coconut, and nuttiness in Bourbon County Original, this BCS-inspired trail mix just makes sense. Riff on your favorite ingredients to keep you and your furry friend going a little longer on that fall hike.

Ingredients

The mix

Rolled Oats 3 cups lightly toasted

Pumpkin Seeds 1 cup

Sunflower Seeds ½ cup

Shredded Coconut ½ cup (optional, if you like the flavor)

Pretzels ½ cup, chopped

Dried Figs or Dates 1 cup, chopped

Dried Cherries ½ cup

Chocolate Chips ½ cup (stirred in after cooling)

The Stout Syrup Binder

Bourbon County Brand Original Stout 1 cup

Brown Sugar ½ cup

Butter (or coconut oil if you want dairy-free) ¼ cup

Molasses or Honey 2 tbsp

Salt a pinch

Instructions

Step 1

In a saucepan, simmer stout with sugar, butter, and molasses until thick and syrupy (soft-ball stage, ~240°F)

Step 2

Pour hot syrup over oat mixture and stir quickly to coat

Step 3

Scatter onto baking sheet and bake in oven at 350°F for 30 minutes

Step 4

Scatter chocolate chips on top while still warm enough to stick, but not melt completely

Step 5

Let cool completely before serving
